A roll-off dumpster in St. Petersburg costs $380 to $630 at Elephants in 2026: $380 for a 10-yard up to $630 for a 30-yard. That flat price covers delivery, pickup, a 2-day rental plus one free day, and 2 to 4 tons of disposal. Extra weight is $95 per ton for homeowners.
Below is every number that goes into the price, what can cost extra, and how to keep your bill at the flat rate. If you would rather skip the reading, call or text 727-240-7033 with a photo of the job and we will send you a firm price.

What is included in the flat price, and what costs extra?
Every rental includes:
- Delivery and pickup
- A 2-day rental plus one free extra day
- Disposal up to the included weight: 2, 2.5, 3 or 4 tons depending on size
- No fuel surcharge and no separate dump-fee bill
What can cost extra:
- Weight over the allowance: $95 per ton for homeowners, $90 per ton for commercial customers.
- Extra days: $25 per day if you keep the container past your rental window. Longer 4-day and 7-day rentals are available; ask for the rate when you book.
- Tires: loads with five or more tires are charged at $180 per ton, so tell us in advance if tires are in the pile.
- Items we can’t take: hazardous waste and a few other materials are not allowed in a roll-off. Check what can and cannot go in a dumpster before you load.
How much do real St. Pete dumpster loads weigh?
On average, our loads come in under the included weight. Here is what our containers have weighed at the landfill, compared with what each size includes:
| Size | Weight included | Our average load |
|---|---|---|
| 10-yard | 2 tons | 1.46 tons |
| 15-yard | 2.5 tons | 1.27 tons |
| 20-yard | 3 tons | 2.20 tons |
| 30-yard | 4 tons | 2.89 tons |
The loads that do go over are usually the heavy ones: concrete, dirt, tile and roofing.
How much does it cost if my dumpster is overweight?
You pay only for the weight over your allowance, at $95 per ton for homeowners.
Example: a 20-yard dumpster from a roof tear-off weighs 4.2 tons at the landfill. The 20-yard includes 3 tons, so the load is 1.2 tons over. 1.2 × $95 = $114, so the total is $530 + $114 = $644.
If the same load had weighed 2.8 tons, the price would have stayed at $530. That is why heavy material is the one thing worth planning around.
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on a St. Pete street?
If the dumpster sits on your own driveway or yard, you do not need a permit. If it has to go on the street or in the public right-of-way, the City of St. Petersburg may require a right-of-way permit. Contact the city’s Engineering & Capital Improvements department at (727) 893-7238 or row_permitting@stpete.org before your delivery date. The city does not post a dumpster permit fee online, so ask when you call.
Outside St. Petersburg, each city in Pinellas County handles its own streets, and unincorporated areas go through Pinellas County. Tell us where the container is going and we will tell you who to call.
Why do some St. Pete dumpster quotes look cheaper?
A lower headline price usually means less is included. Check these five things before you book:
- Disposal billed separately. Some ads list a low rental price “plus disposal,” so the dump fee arrives on a second bill.
- Less weight included. Some quotes include only 1 ton. Our average 20-yard load weighs 2.2 tons, so a 1-ton allowance can mean overage fees on a typical job.
- Brokers. National booking sites take your order and pass it to a local hauler. The price can include their cut, and the company that shows up may not be the one you booked.
- Delivery or fuel fees. Some get added at checkout or on the final invoice.
- Rental length. A 7-day price is not the same as a 2-day price. Pay for the days you need.
Ask every company the same question: “What is my total for this size, for these days, with this much weight, including delivery and disposal?”
Is it cheaper to rent a dumpster or hire junk removal?
Our junk removal is $50 per cubic yard of truck space with a $150 minimum, and our crew does all the lifting. A 10-yard dumpster is $380, and you load it yourself.
- Half a truckload of junk removal (7.5 cubic yards) is about $375, almost the same as a 10-yard dumpster.
- Below that, junk removal is usually cheaper, and you skip the lifting.
- Above that, or if the project takes several days, a dumpster usually costs less.
Heavy debris like concrete and tile is priced by weight in junk removal, so ask for a quote on those.
How can I keep my dumpster rental cost down?
- Pick the right size. Text a photo to 727-240-7033 and we will tell you which size fits. Too small means a second haul; too big means paying for empty space.
- Put heavy material in a 10-yard. Concrete, dirt, tile and roofing use up the weight allowance long before they fill the box.
- Keep banned items out. Tires and restricted items add charges.
- Use the city’s bulk pickup for a few items. If you only have a couple of bulky pieces, St. Petersburg’s bulk pickup may cost nothing. Call Sanitation at (727) 893-7398.
- Book before a storm. Containers go fast once a storm is forecast. Our prices do not go up after a storm.
