Appliance Removal and Recycling in St. Petersburg, FL
Appliances are the worst possible thing to have sitting in a garage. They are heavy, awkward, sharp-edged and, in the case of anything with a compressor, legally regulated at disposal. Elephants Dumpster Rental & Junk Removal handles the whole job: we disconnect nothing you would not want us to, carry the unit out, protect your flooring and doorways, load it and haul it away for proper recycling.
We cover St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Seminole and all of Pinellas County. Call 727-240-7033 for a free quote, or view our pricing.
Appliances we haul away
- Refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers and mini fridges – see refrigerator removal
- Washers and dryers, stacked units and pedestals
- Ranges, ovens, cooktops, wall ovens and range hoods
- Dishwashers, trash compactors and garbage disposals
- Water heaters, tank and tankless
- Microwaves, air fryers and countertop appliances
- Window and portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers
- Air handlers, condensers and HVAC components
- Commercial kitchen equipment – see restaurant cleanouts
Replacing several appliances at once, or gutting a kitchen entirely? Look at kitchen demolition or a roll-off dumpster.
Refrigerants, Regulations and Why Appliance Disposal Is Not Simple
Anything with a compressor – refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers – contains refrigerant. Under the federal Clean Air Act it is illegal to knowingly vent refrigerant to the atmosphere, and those units have to be processed by a facility that recovers the refrigerant before the metal is crushed. That is why your regular trash service will not take them and why a landfill will turn them away.
We deliver appliances to recycling facilities equipped to recover refrigerant and oils and to reclaim the steel, copper and aluminum. You do not have to research any of it, arrange a certificate, or make the trip yourself.
What else is inside an old appliance
- Steel, copper and aluminum – the reason appliances are worth recycling at all
- Compressor oil, which has to be drained rather than crushed
- Mercury switches in some older freezers and washing machines
- Capacitors and circuit boards handled as e-waste
- Insulating foam in refrigerator walls that requires separate processing
What we ask you to do first
Two small things make the job faster and safer. Empty the appliance – food out of the fridge, clothes out of the dryer. And if the unit is hard-plumbed or hard-wired, such as a built-in wall oven, a dishwasher or a water heater, have it disconnected by a licensed plumber or electrician before we arrive. We are a hauling company; we will pull a plug and disconnect a standard washer hose, but we do not cut gas lines, break water connections or work inside your electrical panel. That protects your home and keeps your insurance intact.
What Appliance Removal Costs
Appliance pickup is priced by item and volume. A single appliance is a flat rate. Two or three units together cost less per piece than booking them separately, and a full kitchen’s worth of appliances is usually a quarter to half truckload.
- Single item pickup – one fridge, one washer, one water heater. See single item pickup.
- Two to four appliances – typical for a kitchen or laundry refresh.
- Quarter to half load – full kitchen swap-outs, rental turnovers, small remodels.
- Full load or dumpster – multi-unit properties and larger renovations.
Your price is all-inclusive: labor, stairs, loading, transport and recycling fees. There is nothing added at the end. Because appliances contain recoverable scrap metal, appliance pickup is one of the cheapest jobs we do, and if you have a large quantity of clean metal, ask about our free scrap metal removal.
Curbside pickup, and why it usually fails
Most Pinellas County haulers will not collect appliances with curbside bulk waste, and several require the refrigerant to be professionally recovered and tagged before they will touch a unit. Leaving an old fridge at the curb also creates a genuine child-safety hazard and can bring a code enforcement notice. Scheduled removal solves all of it in one visit.
Same-Day Appliance Pickup Across Pinellas County
Appliance jobs are usually driven by a deadline: a delivery truck is coming, a tenant moves in Monday, or the old water heater is currently in the hallway. We keep same-day and next-day slots open for exactly that reason and we text you an arrival window instead of giving you a vague all-day promise.
Who calls us
- Homeowners replacing a fridge, washer or water heater
- Appliance retailers and installers whose delivery crews cannot take the old unit
- Landlords and property managers handling turnovers – see property management services
- Realtors preparing a listing or clearing a garage before photos
- Contractors mid-remodel who need the old units gone today
- Restaurants and offices replacing commercial equipment
Why customers stay with us
We are locally owned in Pinellas County, not a franchise call center. The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up. Crews are uniformed, background-checked and fully insured, prices are given before work starts, and we recycle rather than dump because it is the right way to run a hauling company. Read our customer reviews and see for yourself.
Appliance Removal Across St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa and Pinellas County
St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa are the three markets we book the most appliance removal in. If you are anywhere in Pinellas County or across the bay in Hillsborough County, you are inside our normal route.
St. Petersburg, FL
St. Petersburg gets our fastest response on appliance removal simply because we are already here. We cover downtown, the Grand Central District, Historic Roser Park, Bartlett Park, Euclid St. Paul, Meadowlawn and the Gateway corridor. City bulk curbside pickup is free if you can wait for it, and we will tell you when that is the smarter option. Details on our St. Petersburg coverage.
Clearwater, FL
Clearwater is our second-heaviest market. appliance removal runs from Countryside and Morningside out to Island Estates, Sand Key and Clearwater Beach. Beach and island buildings almost always mean elevator reservations, certificates of insurance and loading dock windows — we carry the paperwork and book the elevator before the crew rolls. More on our Clearwater junk removal coverage.
Tampa, FL
We serve Tampa across the bay every week. appliance removal runs through South Tampa, Davis Islands, Beach Park, Virginia Park, Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights, Riverside Heights, Westchase and New Tampa. Tampa sits in Hillsborough County, which runs its own disposal system, so Tampa loads tip at Hillsborough facilities rather than the Pinellas plant — we quote that in up front so the price does not move later. See the full Tampa service page.
The Rest of Pinellas County
Everywhere else in the county gets the same crews and the same pricing. That covers Largo, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar, East Lake, Gulfport, Kenneth City, South Pasadena and Tierra Verde, along with every beach town from St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island up through Madeira Beach, Redington Beach, Redington Shores, North Redington Beach, Indian Shores, Indian Rocks Beach and Clearwater Beach. The Belleair municipalities — Belleair, Belleair Beach, Belleair Bluffs and Belleair Shore — are covered, and on the Hillsborough side so are Westchase and Gandy. The Pinellas County page lists it all.
Not sure whether your address is inside the line? Call 727-240-7033 and ask. We would rather tell you honestly that a job is outside our range than take a deposit and cancel on you.
Appliance Removal Frequently Asked Questions
How much does appliance removal cost in St. Petersburg?
Appliance removal is priced by item and volume. A single appliance such as one refrigerator, washer or water heater is a flat rate, and multiple units together cost less per piece. A full kitchen’s worth of appliances is usually a quarter to half truckload. The price is all-inclusive and covers labor, stairs, hauling and recycling fees. Call 727-240-7033 for a free quote.
Do you take refrigerators and freezers?
Yes. Refrigerators, freezers, mini fridges, wine coolers and window air conditioners all contain refrigerant, so we deliver them to facilities that recover the refrigerant and oils before the metal is recycled. Please empty the unit before we arrive.
Do I need to disconnect the appliance first?
If it is plugged in, no. We will unplug it and disconnect a standard washer hose. If the appliance is hard-plumbed or hard-wired, such as a built-in wall oven, a dishwasher, a gas range or a water heater, have it disconnected by a licensed plumber or electrician first. We are a hauling company and do not cut gas lines or work inside electrical panels.
Can you get an appliance out of a second-floor unit?
Yes. Stairs, tight hallways and elevators are part of the job and are already included in the quote. There are no extra stair fees. We use appliance dollies, straps and floor protection so nothing gets damaged on the way out.
What do you do with old appliances?
They go to recycling facilities that recover refrigerant and compressor oil and reclaim the steel, copper and aluminum. Working units in good condition are donated where a charity will accept them. Very little of an appliance actually needs to go to a landfill.
Can I just put my old appliance at the curb?
Usually not. Most Pinellas County collection services refuse appliances with compressors unless the refrigerant has been professionally recovered and tagged, and an old fridge left at the curb is both a child-safety hazard and a possible code violation.
Do you offer same-day appliance pickup?
Yes. Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available throughout St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Seminole and the rest of Pinellas County. We text an arrival window rather than giving you an all-day range.
Do you remove commercial kitchen equipment?
Yes. Walk-in cooler panels, commercial ranges, fryers, prep tables, ice machines and reach-in coolers are all within scope, and we can work after hours so your business is not disrupted. See our restaurant cleanout service.
Do you pay for scrap appliances?
We do not buy individual appliances, but appliance pickup is one of our lowest-priced services precisely because the metal is recoverable. If you have a large volume of clean scrap metal, ask about our free scrap metal removal.
Do you offer appliance removal in Tampa, FL?
Yes. Tampa is a regular part of our route, not a special trip. We cross the Howard Frankland, Gandy and Courtney Campbell bridges for appliance removal in South Tampa, Hyde Park, Palma Ceia, Seminole Heights, Ybor City, Westchase, Carrollwood, Temple Terrace and New Tampa. Tampa is in Hillsborough County, so loads tip at Hillsborough facilities instead of the Pinellas plant. That difference is already in the number we quote you — there is no bridge surcharge bolted on at the end.
How fast can you get to Clearwater for appliance removal?
Clearwater is our second-busiest market, so same-day or next-day is normal. Jobs in Countryside, Skycrest, Morningside and the US-19 corridor are straightforward. Anything on Clearwater Beach, Sand Key or Island Estates we schedule early in the morning, because the Memorial Causeway and beach parking will wreck an afternoon window. If the building needs a certificate of insurance or a reserved service elevator, tell us when you book and we handle it.
Which cities do you serve besides St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa?
All of Pinellas County. Inland that is Largo, Pinellas Park, Seminole, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Safety Harbor, Oldsmar and East Lake. On the water it is St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Redington Beach, Redington Shores, North Redington Beach, Clearwater Beach and Tierra Verde. We also cover Gulfport, Kenneth City, South Pasadena, Belleair, Belleair Beach, Belleair Bluffs and Belleair Shore, plus Westchase and the Gandy corridor on the Hillsborough side.
