Short answer: almost all ordinary household and construction debris can go in a roll-off dumpster in Pinellas County. What cannot go in is anything liquid, flammable, toxic, pressurized, or containing refrigerant — plus tires, batteries and medical waste. Here is the full list and what to do with the exceptions.
What you can put in a roll-off dumpster
- Furniture — couches, mattresses, tables, dressers, patio sets
- Household junk — boxes, clothing, toys, small appliances, general clutter
- Construction and renovation debris — drywall, lumber, cabinets, flooring, tile, siding
- Roofing material — shingles and underlayment (tell us in advance, it is heavy)
- Yard waste — branches, palm fronds, brush, sod and landscaping debris
- Heavy material — concrete, brick, dirt and asphalt, usually in a 10 yard container

Where the banned items actually go
Household hazardous waste — paint, solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, batteries and fluorescent bulbs — belongs at the Pinellas County household hazardous waste facility, which accepts these items from county residents. Check the county solid waste website for current hours and accepted items before you drive over.
Asbestos requires a licensed abatement contractor. We are not licensed for abatement and we will tell you straight if we suspect asbestos in a pre-1980 ceiling, floor tile or pipe wrap rather than take the job.
Electronics can often be recycled rather than landfilled. We route what we can to electronics recycling instead of disposal.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put paint in a dumpster in Pinellas County?
No. Liquid paint is household hazardous waste and cannot go in a roll-off dumpster or in curbside trash. Pinellas County operates a household hazardous waste collection facility that takes paint from residents at no charge. Fully dried-out latex paint cans are usually acceptable, but call us at 727-240-7033 before you load them.
Can I throw away a mattress in a dumpster?
Yes, mattresses can go in our dumpsters, but they take up a lot of space and some transfer stations charge extra to handle them. Tell us how many you have when you book so there are no surprises.
What do I do with old tires?
Tires cannot go in with regular debris. We will take them with a $5 per tire disposal fee, or you can drop them at a county facility yourself.
Can I put a refrigerator or air conditioner in the dumpster?
Not with the refrigerant still in it. Appliances containing refrigerant have to be handled separately under federal rules. Set them aside and we will arrange proper disposal.
What happens if I accidentally put a prohibited item in?
Call us before pickup. Removing one item at the curb is easy. A rejected load at the transfer station is expensive and that cost gets passed along, so a two-minute phone call saves everyone money.
